A 28-year-old Ventura man was arrested early today after allegedly assaulting another man with a deadly weapon, the Ventura Police Department reported.
About 3:30 a.m. the victim was walking near the intersection of Peacock Avenue and Whippoorwill Street in Ventura when he was approached by the suspect, Pedro Munoz, who is a known gang member, police said.
The suspect asked the victim about his gang involvement and hit the victim in the face with an unknown object. Police said the victim did not know Munoz and did not provoke the assault.
The victim was treated at Ventura County Medical Center for major, but nonlife threatening facial injuries and was later released, police said.
When officers found Munoz near the scene, he attempted to run away and violently resisted as officers took him into custody, police said.
He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest with violence and gang street terrorism and a parole violation, police said. He was booked into Ventura County jail.
