Oxnard detectives said they arrested a 28-year-old man late Friday afternoon in connection with the homicide of his mother, Sheryl Tye.
Tye's body was found in her apartment along the 2000 block of North Ventura Road on Oct. 9.
Police said they arrested Nathan Lamont Preston about 5:30 p.m. Friday. Preston was booked into Ventura County jail, where his bail was set at $500,000, authorities said.
The officers who found Tye's body were responding to a call from a family member concerned about her well-being. Police found no sign of forced entry into her apartment. Police entered the home after a family member gave them a key.
After Tye's body was found, neighbors said they were shocked at the killing.
Yvette Morris, 46, said Tye was a mother and grandmother who went to church, supported her children and allowed people who were in need to use her shower and phone.
