Police detectives are looking for a man they say aggressively approached a young girl at a school in what was likely a botched sexual assault.
The 12-year-old girl, a student at George Washington Carver Middle School, was waiting for a classmate outside a restroom Friday when a man approached her from behind.
The man grabbed the girl, "forcefully pulling her while making a sexual remark," according to a news release issued by the LAPD. The girl, who was screaming, fell to the ground as the man dragged her about 15 feet from the spot he originally grabbed her.
The girl's classmate came out of the restroom and rushed over to help the girl. Two other students, both boys, joined the struggle, demanding the man release the girl.
One of the students ran to call the school's principal. That's when the man let the girl go and ran to the southeast corner of the school's property, where he climbed a trash can and jumped a fence.
The man is described as 30 to 40-year-old Latino with brown eyes and black hair. He stood between 5 feet 9 inches tall and 6 foot 1 inch tall, weighing 180 to 190 pounds. He had medium skin tone and two cut lines or scars on his left eyebrow.
