A rabbi who had been struck by a car while leaving morning services remained hospitalized Wednesday in critical condition, Los Angeles police said.
Rabbi Samuel Jacobs, 59, was hit by a 1999 Plymouth Voyager early Tuesday as he helped prominent Jewish activist Berish Landau to cross North La Brea Avenue at Oakwood Avenue, authorities said.
Both men were taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where Landau, 88, was later pronounced dead, authorities said. The Los Angeles Police Department identified the driver as a 27-year-old male.
No arrests were made after the crash, said LAPD spokesman Bruce Borihanh.
