A man, Evaristo Santos Paredes, was arrested Thursday morning after a residential burglary in an occupied home in Oxnard.
The burglar removed security bars from a window to get in. A woman was asleep in the house when the burglar entered. The burglar, who was a wearing a mask, fought briefly with the woman before leaving.
Police later arrested Paredes, 21, on the street near the house. Paredes was taken to the Ventura County Jail, where he was being held on $50,000 bail.
The woman in the house received minor injuries and did not require medical care.
Burglary a criminal offense that involves unlawfully breaking and entering, entering or remaining in another's property with the intent of committing theft or a felony offense once inside.
If you or someone you know is being charged with burglary, you may also face misdemeanor or felony charges, depending on the type of structure entered as well as the use of a weapon and other factors.
A felony burglary conviction on a defendant's record may also mean a "strike" on his or her record, resulting in greatly enhanced penalties for future felony convictions.
