A 24-year-old Thousand Oaks man was arrested early Friday in connection with several burglaries involving former girlfriends.
Over the last year and a half, David Fonseca Benavidez allegedly befriended and later lived with several local women in order to steal their property.
According to the Thousand Oaks Police Department Investigations Bureau, Benavidez stole jewelry and other valuables from his girlfriends and their families.
In some of the crimes Benavidez stole property while residing with the victims. Another time Benavidez entered a home while his former girlfriend's family was on vacation.
Benavidez was arrested at 3 a.m. Friday on charges of residential burglary,
grand theft and possession of stolen property. He is in custody at the Ventura County Jail on $55,000 bail.
When a defendant in Los Angeles faces theft charges for property valued at more than $400, he or she will face grand theft charges. A standard grand theft conviction may result in up to 16 months or 2-3 years in state prison. Enhanced penalties may apply depending on the value of property and the defendant's criminal record.
