Teacher pleads guilty to killing his wife during luxury cruise

A 57-year-old Los Angeles County teacher pleaded guilty to second-degree murder Thursday in the beating death of his wife during a luxury cruise.
Robert McGill admitted that he "deliberately and intentionally" killed his wife, Shirley McGill, on the cruise ship Carnival Elation in July 2009 after an argument.
Shirley McGill, 55, had recently retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
McGill was arrested July 16, 2009, when the ship docked in San Diego after a five-day cruise to Cabo San Lucas.
He is set to be sentenced Nov. 8 in federal court in San Diego.
McGill was employed by the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
