Suspected drunk driver injures pregnant woman

A suspected drunk driver who collided with several cars and then fled, leaving an injured and pregnant passenger behind, was in custody Wednesday morning, police said.

Police tried to pull the man over for a traffic stop at about 3:18 a.m. near 58th and Hoover streets, but he refused to stop, said LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman.

After a short pursuit, the driver crashed his vehicle into several parked cars and then ran from the scene, Eisenman said.

Police established a perimeter and arrested him a short time later, she said. His name was not immediately available.

The passenger suffered minor injuries in the collision and was taken to a local hospital, Eisenman said.
