A former Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department sergeant who pleaded guilty this year to two felony shoplifting convictions has been charged with a new felony offense, receiving stolen property.
Prosecutors charged Steven Mark Flamm of Moorpark with receiving a Glock firearm on June 28, 2010, that belonged to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department captain, which had been stolen and obtained by extortion.
Flamm has pleaded not guilty to receiving stolen property and is scheduled to be in court for a preliminary hearing on July 22.
In April, a Ventura judge reduced Flamm's felony shoplifting convictions to misdemeanors. He pleaded guilty to using his two young daughters to steal jackets from a department store in Thousand Oaks in 2009.
Flamm pleaded guilty to the felony charges of second-degree commercial burglary and grand theft in March.
Truong had asked Brodie to sentence Flamm to 180 days in jail and to put him on formal felony probation for three years. She said the maximum sentence he was facing was five years and eight months on all felony charges and the special allegation.
Flamm, 45, was charged with grand theft in May 2009 after he was accused of stealing two jackets worth $790 from the Nordstrom store at The Oaks mall. Truong said he used his daughters, who were 6 and 7 at the time, to steal the jackets.
In June 2010, Flamm was taken into custody as he left a Ventura County courtroom and later was arrested on suspicion of burglary. He had been caught on surveillance video stealing video games worth $900 from Sears. At the time, he was free on $10,000 bail for the Nordstrom case.
