Carjacking and kidnapping committed in Oxnard

A 19-year-old Oxnard man has been sentenced to prison for a Nyeland Acres kidnapping and robbery.
On February 21, Jose Casillas saw a couple sleeping in their parked car, and decided to steal it. He opened the driver's side door, began beating the man and threatened kill the woman if she didn't get out. He then forced the man to drive him around Oxnard for about 45 minutes, but the victim jumped out of the moving car and escaped unharmed.
Casillas was arrested in February and pled guilty in December to carjacking, kidnapping for the purpose of robbery and robbery. He also admitted to assault with a deadly weapon that he used during the crime.
He's to serve 14 years and 8 months in prison for the charges.
