Two people were suspected of two attempted armed robberies and a heist at Simi Valley liquor stores Wednesday night.
The first incident, an attempted armed robbery at Jay's Liquor. The attempted robber - a man about 5 feet 8 inches wearing a black-and-white bandanna across his face, a gray hooded sweatshirt, black gloves and black pants - was seen getting into the passenger side of a dark green sedan waiting at the scene, carrying a semi-automatic handgun.
Police were at Jay's when they received a report of an armed robbery at Paul's Liquor. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the register.
Meanwhile, a motorcycle officer was notifying an employee of Palm Liquor about the previous incidents when the clerk told him the same man had just tried to rob his store. The clerk fought with the robber, who fled without any money.
No injuries were reported in any of those incidents, but they are suspected to be all related.
Immediately contacting a criminal defense lawyer is the most important thing you can do if you have been arrested for or charged with robbery or armed robbery. These are felony offenses that may land you with significant jail time if you are convicted.
Armed robbery is a more serious version of robbery, committed when a person commits robbery while armed with a deadly weapon as was the case in these liquor robberies.
Under California's 10-20-life law, a defendant may face an additional 10 years in prison for displaying a gun, 20 years for firing a fun and 25 years to life for causing serious injury to another person with a gun.
Robbery and armed robbery are also considered "strike" offenses under the Three Strikes Law, which could lead to harsher penalties for future convictions.
