Santa Paula police were looking for a man who robbed a restaurant Wednesday afternoon in the 300 block of South Peck Road.
Witnesses said the man entered the El Pescador Restaurant about 1:40 p.m., displayed a handgun, and demanded money from the cashier. The man then fled north on Peck Road and east on Telegraph Road with an undisclosed sum of money, police said.
Police searched the area but did not find the man. He was described as heavyset, wearing a black baseball hat and a black hooded sweatshirt with a white Raiders football logo.
This offense may be punishable by 2 to 9 years in prison. Armed robbery is a more serious version of this crime, committed when a person commits robbery while armed with a deadly weapon. Under California's 10-20-life law, a defendant may face an additional 10 years in prison for displaying a gun, 20 years for firing a fun and 25 years to life for causing serious injury to another person with a gun.
