A 19-year-old Camarillo man, Rodolfo Marmolejo, was arraigned Friday and pleaded not guilty in connection with the fatal stabbing this week of Juan Carlos Valadez, 18.
Marmolejo is charged with murder, and brandishing a weapon — a misdemeanor. The crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang.
Marmolejo is in custody on $615,000 bail.
A 15-year-old suspect also was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the incident. His name has not been released because of his age.
Valadez, of Camarillo, was walking down an alley behind a FedEx store in the 300 block of Arneill Road in Camarillo on Monday when he was stabbed in the chest during a confrontation, authorities said. The killing appeared tied to a rivalry between the two main gangs in Camarillo, officials said.
Marmolejo is associated with the same gang as the juvenile suspect. The 18-year-old victim was associated with a rival tagging crew.
