Last friday in Orange County, Paul Keesling was sentenced for burglary but his sentence was nhanced due to the three strikes law.
In California if a criminal is convicted of three or more serious crimes the courts are mandated to hand down extended time of incarceration. The thought is that this will cut down on repeat offenders.
Paul Keeslings was previously convicted to two seperate acts of violent crime making the burglary his third strike and causing a sentence of 45 years to life to be given for a home burglary.
"At the criminal defense law office of Robert Michael Helfend, Attorney at Law, I don't believe that having a prior felony conviction or being a repeat offender means that you are worthless and deserve a lifetime behind bars. I am criminal defense lawyer Robert Helfend. After more than twenty years of practice, I have seen too many good people face serious incarceration that would destroy their lives and families. I am recognized throughout Los Angeles and Southern California for my hard work and tough defense tactics to help my clients avoid a conviction that carries a three strike penalty. Whether my clients are facing their first felony conviction, or their third, I approach every three-strike felony case with an understanding of how important it is to my client." - Los Angeles Defense Attorney Robert Michael Helfend
