Los Angeles Gang Crimes Are Often So Horrific The Details Are Hard To Hear

In Los Angeles gang crime seems like it's an everyday occourance. Between movies and headlines it's easy to believe taht the problem is out of control. Ventura County Defense Attorney Robert Helfend has tried many cases involving gangs and gang violence.
This week in a court in Los Angeles a polite and well behaved man sat in a witness booth and calmly told the story of a terrible crime that he was involved in. Reports say that he was addressing the jurrors as sir and ma'am as he told them about how he and his fellow gang memebers stabbed a friend who they believed had "snitched".
"He didn't scream or nothing," testified Jose Covarrubias as he told about stabbing a 20 year old boy. He said that he personally stabbed him four or five times when he was already on his back and dying.
Christopher Ash, who's body was found with multiple gashes to his stomach, was suspected of talking to authorites about another crime where the gang killed a young girl because she was black. Covarrubias told the court how part of the reason his gang is so feared is becuase of their tendancy to turn on each other should the need arise.
