On Saturday afternoon, just before four o'clock, bicyclist James Laing was riding along Agoura Road when he was struck by a Mercedes Benz. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The female driver, who we now know as S. D. Whitmansegal, continued to drive without stopping to check on the man or contact emergency services. Witnesses followed her to a gas station down the road where she was arrested for suspicion of DUI as well as leaving the scene of an accident and gross vehicular manslaughter.
The reports did not outline when Whimansegal would have her day in court but it can be supposed that she will be dealing with the remorse of her actions for years to come weather she is found guilty or not.
Ventura County DUI Defense Attorney Robert Michael Helfend has helped those accused in crimes such as this. He understands that often it is easier to say a driver was probably drunk than it is to admit that a tragedy is just an accident.
If you or anyone you love has been charged with a DUI crime and are now facing the courts alone, contact the law offices of Los Angeles Defense Attorney Robert Helfend for an aggressive defense plan aimed to get the accused back home to their family.
A case like this has no upside but it does not have to end two lives.
