The Los Angeles Police Department is finding a mean spirited new con scheme aimed at Spanish speaking residents of the Los Angeles area. The con begins with a person asking a stranger for help with a winning lottery ticket. They claim to be an illegal immigrant and offer part of the winnings to the person who cashes the ticket for them.
The catch of the ordeal is that the con artist will ask the trusting individual for some sort of collateral to ensure they won't run off with the winnings. But of course when the ticket is turned in, it is invalid.
The con artists will often have a fake lottery representative who assure the mark that the ticket is valid and all they have to do is take it to the office.
Many innocent residents in LA are losing money and jewelry due to this scam.
If you are caught perpetrating this type of scam where you rob people of their belongings and cash flow, call Los Angeles County Defense attorney Robert Michael Helfend. He will put together an aggressive defense aimed to keep you home with your family instead of behind bars.
