Law making officials in Los Angeles have decided to close several dispensaries in unincorporated territories areas of LA and ban any others from opening. They are siting crime as the reason and saying the bans will be best for everyone involved.
"Attracting crime and other nuisances, these facilities have a negative impact on the communities where they've operated - leading more than 100 cities and nine counties in California to pass similar ordinances," said Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
Both sides of the marijuana argument have very good points. Orange County Supervisor Shawn Nelson voted against this ban saying that removing dispensaries only makes the illegal drug dealers more prevalent, while others say that making the drug more available is only creating more users and more crime.
Those who need the pain relieving effects of marijuana also have much to say.
"I submit to you that compassion is an element of successful public policy, and I would suggest that the intent of this ban is not compassionate," Gary Kearns, a 59-year-old Los Angeles County resident suffering from AIDS said while making points to end the ban.
