Another tragic "working class" death occurred May sixth in Los Angeles. Jane Collins lost her life, and the life of her unborn baby, because of gang violence.
According to an article in the L.A. Times, Collins, 26, died from one bullet among several, fired from the gun of some angry gang member. Gang task force stated that the shooting was not intended for her, although her husband may have been involved in rival gang activity.
Her husband had just exited the vehicle, when the gunman pulled up in an SUV and opened fire. Witnesses reported hearing "five shots in rapid succession". Collins was rushed to the hospital immediately by friends, but there was nothing that could be done to save her or her unborn child. Her death marks the first violent death in the area this year, but authorities fear that, retaliation, and continued violence is imminent.
