The foster parents of 2 year old Viola Vanclief are being investigated in conjunction with her death. The toddler came to the emergency room with a wound to her head that was made by a hammer. Her foster mother, 38 year old Kiana
Barker, claimed that the baby's head had been stuck in a bed frame and when she tried to free the child she accidentally struck her.
Viola died on march 4th from her injury. Doctors reported that there were several bruises on Vanclief's body and apparently believe that this case is a possible homicide as one accidental blow to the head would not create multiple bruises.
Authorities arrested both Barker and her boyfriend 38 year old James Julian. However, the two were later released and no charges were filed. The LAPD says that they are still investigating the case and believe that there is foul play involved. Barker's certification allowing her to take in foster children was revoked last week.
While this case is extremely sensitive and the details of which will undoubtedly be hashed over again and again in the media, it is still an important and quite possibly accidental case. Charges filed may indeed be premature and unnecessary.
