In 2008 Leonard Nwafor was convicted of health care fraud and conspiracy because of over $1 million in false billing
to Medicaid. He was sentenced on Wednesday although he's been a fugitive since his conviction.
The Los Angeles area medical provider was sentenced to 9 years in prison for convincing 170 patients to get motorized vehicles and bill them to Medicaid even though the elderly people didn't need them. One patient even stated that he never used the vehicle because he is blind.
Several doctors testified that the San Fernando based company, Pacific City Group, forged their signatures on the prescriptions for the motorized vehicles.
In addition to jail time Nwafor will have to pay more than one million dollars in fines and restitution.
Los Angeles Defense Attorney Robert Michael Helfend could help in this case. Mr. Helfend would use his decades of experience to argue in favor of his client. He is a trusted attorney amongst his clients as well as prosecutors and judges, therefore, his motions are filed strategically and taken seriously.
As in a drug sales case that Mr Helfend tried: "Client was caught on video and audio tape negotiating with an undercover narcotics detective for the purchase of 1 kilo of cocaine. Mr. Helfend successfully persuaded the Court to sentence his client to NO JAIL TIME or community service." anyone can expect the same type of aggressive defense plan.
