Matt Engeman, a 54 year old Ventura man, was disgruntled with his landlord and began to make his feelings known last Sunday evening. Police called saw that nothing had happened in the tense situation before they arrived. However, while authorities were there, Engeman bumped into the other man intentionally.
Police warned Engeman to stop or he would be arrested for battery and this seemed to make him even more angry. He lashed out at the victim, who's name was not released, and hit him in the face with the video camera in his hand.
The victim suffered multiple small facial wounds including a bloody nose and lossened teeth.
Matt Engeman also lashed out with racial slurs and threats of further harm all while police were still present. He may faces charges of assault, criminal threats and even misdemeanor hate crimes according to jail records.
In this case the details are fairly clear and the charges will be difficult to fight. However, if you have a lawyer who is invested in your freedom and wellbeing, a great outcome could happen.
