On Tuesday Luis Miguel Noriega, a 28 year old Temple City man, led police on a high speed chase that killed Walter Williams of Baldwin Park. Noriega's stolen sport utility vehicle was speeding through an area where Williams, a youth counselor, was stopping to pick up his pay for the week.
Williams' car exploded into flames upon impact igniting his body as it was thrown from the vehicle. He died at the scene.
The charges faced by Noriega include murder, evading a police officer, and leaving the scene of an accident. He is now in custody and will be arraigned on July 13th. If he's found guilty he may be sentenced to 18 years to life in prison.
"I feel if they we're chasing a person who kidnapped someone or murdered someone they have to use precaution," said Janet Williams, mother of the deceased, who lived with her son. "But if they were chasing someone who just stole a car then it's not worth it. It's a car."
