In a previous blog we talked about a homeless man who had been accused of kidnapping an killing a 17 year old girl. He had been living in a halfway house at the time but gained permission to take the day to visit the DMV, which was closed.
Charlie Samuel, 50, has reached a plea bargain with the prosecuting attorney in order to remain alive. He would likely have been sentenced to death for the awful crime if he hadn't pleaded guilty and confessed the details of that infamous day.
Samuel had apparently been using and drinking when he saw young Lily Burk while out running errands for her mother. He tried to get her to withdraw money from her bank account and when that didn't work he bashed her head in, cut her throat, and left her to die inside her own vehicle.
He left behind DNA and fingerprints which led detectives right to him.
In a case like this it is easy to think of the accused as a horrible killing machine and want to see him squirm on an injection table, but it is important that every single person charged with a crime in our great country is given a fair and proper defense. That means hiring a lawyer who wants to see them acquitted.
Los Angles Defense Attorney Robert Michael Helfend works hard for each client who needs him. He has over twenty years of experience in trial law in the Ventura County area and he will put that time to use for you or a loved one that has been charged with a crime.
