New Law Making Waves

Under the new 'early release' law 300 inmates have been walked out prison gates free in Orange County and nearly 200 from Sacremento County. The law is the subject of much discussion among law makers and prison officials.
The law signed, by gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, attempts to decrease the population in prisons by changing the way time off for good behaviour is awarded. Orange County has become the second major
policing organization to oppose the law in court.
Apparently there was confusion as to how the new law was to be interpreted as some understood it to mean that the recalculation should be retro active to when the inmate began serving time. The clrification stating that the recalculation should only effect the time the inmates serves after the law was passed (Jan 25) came after hundreds were released including one man who alledgedly assulted a woman hours after his prison exit.
Wayne Quint, president of the Assn. of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs, stated that the "early release program endangers our county and the people who live and work here,".
Overall more than 1,500 inmates have been released in Sacramento, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura and other counties.
Although this is a law who's merit will be debated until proper clarification is made, the more important thing is to never be on the opposite side of the gates in the first place. Attorney Robert Helfend will fight to make sure any charges filed against you are dropped or dismissed altogether. If you are accused of a crime call Robert Helfend for your greatest possible chance of never seeing the inside of a prison.
