A man stopped his car for two men standing in the middle of the street in Montebello on Wednessday. Police Sgt. Luis Lopez of the Montebello police department stated that the two men then opened the doors of the car, tried to rob the victim, and then one of them stabbed him. A bystander saw what was happening
and yelled at the men to stop.
The men ten tried to get away in the car but were unable to get it moving. "They tried to flee in the car but couldn't," Lopez said. "They may have been scared off by the witness."
The men then fled the scene on foot but were nearly immediately apprehended by the police.
The victim was treated at Los Angeles County--USC Medical Center and is expected to live.
The perpetrators were later identified as Anthony Perez and Manuel Pineda. They are both in custody in Montebello City Jail without the means to pay the $100,000 bail.
Ventura Defense Attorney Robert Helfend can help in this case.
