During a routine patrol, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol spotted a 24 foot Wellcraft Fishing Boat which was towed into the harbor and searched because authorities suspected drugs may be on board.
Investigators learned their suspicions were correct when on board the boat they found ninety-eight packages of marijuana hidden in several secret compartments. The total weight of the packages was just under five hundred pounds. Two American citizens were arrested while others remain under scrutiny. Police hope to find the source of the drugs before they were sent to the US.
Agents said the street value of the drugs is estimated at $272,000. The boat was spotted about three miles from shore on Saturday afternoon around 2:30. An investigation is underway.
Los Angeles Defense Attorney Robert Michael Helfend could help in this case. By putting together an aggressive defense plan, Robert Helfend will fight for your rights and freedoms.
"Drug crimes investigations often involve more than allegations of drug possession or narcotics trafficking. If conducted at the federal level, investigators often look for evidence of money laundering and conspiracy. Once an indictment is handed down, a criminal forfeiture may be initiated, allowing the government to seize any property or assets it believes the accused acquired with proceeds from illegal drug activity. At my office,Robert Michael Helfend, Attorney at Law, I have the resources and experience needed to defend clients on multiple fronts in cases involving charges of drug trafficking in Los Angeles." - Robert Helfend
