During a party before a football game, commonly known as tailgating, a rogue football was blamed for a huge fight ultimately involving fifty to seventy five people.
Three men were arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, one of whom had his charges upgraded to attempted murder and the other two are now being held while charges of assault on a police officer are being investigated.
The entire ordeal is mostly a mystery. What is known is that the football was thrown by Vilmal Patel who intended it to be caught by one of his friends. However, it hit a Mercedez and then the melee started.
"We were in the middle of it and my brother got popped in the face," said the twin brother of Joshua Dirling, who had a knife tip embedded in his cheekbone when the fight was broken up. "We were having a good time and this broke out."
Patel was in intensive care at a nearby hospital.
