Los Angeles man killed in front of his family

The Los Angeles Police Department says were responding to reports of a domestic dispute at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Perez when they were forced to shoot the man who was brandishing a gun.

However, the family of the man say they called to report that Elmer was acting strangely and saying weird things. They said that he needed help and that he had a toy gun but that he was not violent.

Both the man's young son and pregnant wife were witnesses to the shooting. Family members report that the child says that 'daddy fell'.

When officers got to the house they heard fighting and forced their way inside. They say they saw Mr. Perez acting verbally and physically threatening and then he turned toward them with a gun.

The officers shot him and he died on the scene. The family is distraght and say that the situation could have been prevented.

"Calling the cops was the worst mistake ever because they shot our loved one," Said Jennifer Gomez the victim's sister.
