California State Long Beach Police are conducting a manhunt for a man who on April 15th, attacked a transgender student on campus property..
The attack took place when the student went alone to use the bathroom, according to authorities, the victim was followed by another man, who addressed the student by name, then began slashing the victim in the chest repeatedly.
After the assault, the assailant fled and the student was ushered to a nearby hospital by a Cal State Long Beach instructor. The university reported the student was released from the hospital with several cuts to the chest, none of which were life threatening.
The attack occurred in the school's KKJZ building, though the motive remains unclear Authorities have declined comment to whether they are investigating it as a hate crime. A spokesman for the university told officials they considered it an isolated incident and they do not see a threat to other students on campus.
