Tax Preparer Gets 18 Months For Bogus Returns
Maria Pinzon-Virula, of Paramount, CA, was sentenced to 18 months in federal custody for filing false tax returns on behalf of relatives and others which claimed fraudulent Schedule C expenses. In all, Pinzon-Virula filed more than 100 bogus tax returns between 2002 and 2006 through her tax preparation business, Public Assistant Income Tax in Long Beach, CA. Refunds of between $1,800 and $4,100 were issued based on the bogus returns. After serving her prison sentence, Pinzon-Virula will remain on probation for an additional 12 months.
