Raids Close 14 Medical Marijuana Dispensaries
Two people are facing federal drug charges following raids conducted jointly by state and federal police agencies on fourteen medical marijuana dispensaries. San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis says that owners of the dispensaries that were raided were not in compliance with state law, which requires a dispensary to be owned and operated by cooperatives or collectives. Dumanis alleged that the dispensaries that were shut down were for-profit enterprises that were selling marijuana illegally. One of the businesses that was shut down recorded more than $700,000 in sales in a six month period. Several guns and $70,000 in cash were also confiscated in the raids.
Based on the results of the undercover investigation conducted by the San Diego Police Department, he District Attorney aid that none of the dispensaries was found to have sold marijuana to individuals without a prescription, but none of the fourteen dispensaries was organized legally and their legal organization resulted in the raids and arrests.
