Diamond Theft Leads To Arrest of Six
Six Southern California defendants
Pleaded guilty to conspiracy to interfere with interstate commerce for their roles in a $3.7 million diamond heist following a Columbus, OH horse show at the Ohio State Fairgrounds.
An Indiana diamond salesman was accosted in the parking lot of a restaurant following the event, and the thieves stole two suitcases full of diamonds valued at more than $3.7 million. The salesman fired seven shots into the rental vehicle, a Chrysler 300 sedan. When police recovered the vehicle, they found that it contained the California driver license of one of the thieves. Police traced the suspects to a motel in New Jersey through calls made on a cell phone belonging to the thief whose driver's license was found in the rental car. Police in New Jersey raided the adjoining motel rooms where the men were staying and recovered all of the stolen jewelry. The men now face up to 20 years behind bars.
