DUI Leads To Three Deaths
Officers from the California Highway Patrol say that a suspect who was out on bail from Ventura County is responsible for a DUI crash that took the lives of three people on Highway 41 in Madera County. The driver, Justin Rice, was under the influence of marijuana and possibly methamphetamine when he was found weaving among cars on the highway.
Officers say that Rice said he had no idea that he'd struck a car head-on in which five women were carpooling to work at the Chukchansi Casino. Three of the five women were killed at the scene; the other two women were treated at an area hospital and released in good condition. Rice had been arrested in Ventura County on a child endangerment charge and a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. He was out on bail on these charges at the time the accident occurred.
