Orange County Chase Ends In Arrest
Laguna Beach police arrested a San Gabriel man after a 45-minute chase that started in Orange County. California Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop Nioel Banuelos, 41, in connection with a burglary that had just occurred. Banuelos got on Interstate 5 and fled at speeds that exceeded 110 mph.
The chase included officers from Laguna Beach, the Orange County Sheriff's Department, and the California Highway Patrol. At one point, Banuelos attempted to exit the freeway by driving the wrong way up a freeway entrance ramp. An officer was able to end the pursuit by hitting the rear end of Banuelos' car, causing it to skid off the freeway ramp. Banuelos was arrested and turned over to the Laguna police. No one was injured during the chase or in the subsequent accident.
