California Woman Arrested In $10 Million Embezzlement
A former executive at a California cabinet company has been arrested on suspicion of embezzlement. Police say that Annette Yeomans, who had been the company's chief financial officer, embezzled nearly $10 million from the company over a period of seven years.
Police say Yeomans routinely spent $25,000 per week on her credit cards, and then paid the bill each Monday morning using company accounts. At the time of her arrest, Yeoman had hundreds of pairs of expensive shoes valued at $240,000 and $320,000 worth of purses. She had also used company funds to convert a bedroom in her home into a closet that had expensive cabinetry, granite countertops, a 32-inch plasma television and a crystal chandelier.
In addition to her spending on personal and luxury items, Yeomans is accused of gambling away about $6 million of the company's funds. The company also employed Yeomans' husband, but police do not believe he was involved in the scheme. He was a cabinet installer for the company, and police believe he simply thought his wife's spending came from her salary and bonuses. Yeomans has turned over all of her personal possessions, including her cars, her home and its contents to the company, to recover some of its funds. In all, the company believes it can recoup about 20% of the funds Yeomans is accused of diverting.
