Murder Charges Filed In Santa Paula Teen's Death
A man already in custody on unrelated charges will be charged in the 2003 murder of a Santa Paula teen. Joey Flores, 29, is accused of shooting Samuel Travis Reeves, 15, to death during a surprise birthday party that both men attended.
Reeves, who was accompanied to the party by his three brothers, was one of about 300 guests at a farm house near Santa Paula. A fight broke out between rival gang members and Reeves, a bystander, was shot in the chest. Two other gang members were arrested and charged with the murder, but were acquitted in 2005. Investigators from the Ventura County Sheriff's Department say that DNA evidence and the statements of witnesses led them to the arrest.
