LA Teacher Faces Federal Murder Charges
A Los Angeles teacher was arraigned on a federal murder charge related to the death of his wife while the pair were aboard the Carnival cruise ship Elation. The couple was on a five-day cruise to Cabo San Lucas when the incident occurred. Ship personnel were called to the couple's cabin where they discovered Shirley McGill, a recently retired employee of the Department of Motor Vehicles, dead in the bathroom. Her husband, Robert McGill, appeared to have minor injuries to his hands from the struggle.
According to federal prosecutors, McGill told investigators that he had killed his wife. CarnivaL Cruise personnel notified the FBI, which sent agents to the ship while it was still en route. McGill was arrested when the ship docked in San Diego. The couple had been married since 2003.
