LA Gang Founder Arrested On Extortion Charges
The founder of the FSU (Friends Stand United) gang, Elgin Nathan James, was arrested at his Los Angeles home and charged with extortion. James is accused of threatening and assaulting a Chicago-area recording artist.
James founded FSU in Boston and has been accused of attempting to extort thousands of dollars from various punk rock bands throughout the country. The victim, whom authorities did not name in the indictment, said he was attacked by a group of six men after an altercation with another recording artist who was part of FSU. The victim alleges that James called the artist the following month and promised that the dispute could be resolved for a $5,000 donation to FSU.
The victim alleged that he was attacked a second time a month later and contacted the FBI for assistance. The FBI surveilled the exchange of an envelope containing $5,000 between the victim and James at a 2006 meeting that took place in California.
