Producers Charged With Bribery

Producers Charged With Bribery
Noted Hollywood film producers Gerald and Patricia Green have been accused of bribery related to their oversight of the Bangkok International Film Festival in Thailand. Federal prosecutors have charged the Greens under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and say that the Greens paid Thai officials to allow them to run the film festival and benefit from large tourism contracts associated with it.
Federal prosecutors allege that the Greens paid the former governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand about $1.8 million and transferred payments to the governor in cash, and in deposits to his daughter's bank account or the bank account of the daughter's friend. The arrangement enabled the Greens to sell "privilege" cards that allowed the carrier to avoid customs and provided discounts at hotels and restaurants. The costs of certain festival contracts were inflated to pay off the governor. Thai police say that former governor Juthamas Siriwan has not been arrested but that they have amassed evidence against her that corroborates the charges against the Greens.
