Federal Officials Raid Topanga Canyon Medical Marijuana Dispensary
Federal and state officials, using a state warrant, raided two medical marijuana dispensaries and arrested the owner, Jeffery Joseph, 40 of Topanga Canyon. Joseph is accused of possessing more than 50 pounds of marijuana for sale.
Police confiscated 452 live plants in two locations, more than 100 pounds of hashish and more than $103,000 in cash. State law permits the possession, use and sale of marijuana for medical purposes but federal law prohibits it. Earlier this year, US Attorney General Eric Holder said that the federal government would prosecute medical marijuana cases only under select circumstances, but state and federal officials declined to say which laws Joseph is accused of breaking.
If you've been arrested for medical marijuana-related charges in the State of California, your rights can be successfully defended in court. Los Angeles federal criminal defense attorney Robert Michael Helfend can assist in preparing a successful criminal defense based on state law in California, which permits the production, use and sale of medical marijuana through registered dispensaries to patients who have received a prescription from their physician.
Despite the fact that state law permitting medical marijuana use has been in place for more than 10 years, marijuana prosecutions continue, even against those persons who are lawfully permitted to manufacture, possess and sell medical marijuana. Allow Mr. Helfend to defend your rights in court. Contact Robert Helfend today for a free consultation on your medical marijuana case.
