Buena Park MD and Wife Charged With Grand Theft
A Buena Park physician and his wife were charged with grand theft and state income tax fraud. The arrests, which occurred earlier this year, were the result of a joint investigation of John Han, 61, and Sonya Han, 55. Prosecutors in the LA District Attorney's Office report that between 2001 and 2005, Han accepted more than $10 million in Medicare and Medi-Cal payments and underreported his income by nearly $7 million.
The couple reportedly owes the state more than $1.3 million in income taxes and more than $1.1 million in corporate income taxes, along with penalties and the cost of the investigation. The case was investigated by Los Angeles County's Fraud Interdiction Program, which targets health care fraud and abuse.
