Ventura County Deputies Arrest Three Gang Members On Weapons, Drug Charges
Three members of the Hell's Angels motorcycle gang were arrested on weapons and drug charges following a series of raids on homes around Ventura County. The raids were the result of an investigation of a road rage incident in January, in which Hell's Angels Santa Barbara Chapter president Archie Schaffer allegedly attempted to force some recreational motorcyclists off the road, and allegedly brandished a weapon at motorcyclists in the group.
The group of three motorcyclists was driving down Highway 33 near Casitas Springs when Schaffer began tailgating the group in a pickup truck. He allegedly forced one cyclist into oncoming traffic and pointed a gun at the remaining two. The incident was videotaped. The tape sparked the investigation, which led to Schaffer's arrest on January 30. He is free on a $160,000 bond.
Further investigation led to search warrants issued on twelve residences connected with the Hell's Angels Ventura and Santa Barbara chapters. The raids, which were conducted Wednesday, netted an additional two arrests. James Ivans, 37, was arrested on possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of Vicodin, as well as a felony weapon charge. He was also charged with committing a felony while on bail. He had been free on a $100,000 bond related to a prior drug charge.
Martin Kada, 36, was also arrested on possession of a loaded firearm and committing a felony while on bail. Kada had also previously been arrested for transporting methamphetamine.
