Murder Charges For Murder Suspect's Nephew
Murder charges were filed against two men, Eric Delacruz, 29, of Carson in Los Angeles County, and Fernando Romero, 25, of Highland in San Bernardino County. They are suspected in the death of Sonia Rios Risken, 60, who was found shot to death in her Lomita home in 2007. Nine days before her death, an unknown person shot at her while she worked in her hair salon, also in Lomita. She was not injured in that incident, but the perpetrator threatened Risken and said he would return.
Risken herself was a murder suspect in the deaths of her husbands, although she was never charged in either case. Earl John Bordeau was killed, allegedly by Risken's brothers while visiting his wife's family in the Philippines in 1987. Larry Risken, Jr., Sonia Risken's second husband, was killed in much the same way on a 2006 visit. Both men were US Naval veterans and their deaths were presumed to be part of an insurance fraud scheme.
Delacruz, Risken's great-nephew, and Romero met while in the US Navy. Both men had been assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan and were on active duty at the time of the murder. Delacruz came under suspicion after offering to retrieve Larry Risken's ashes from the Philippines for a relative for $250,000, while posing as Sonia Risken's son John in emails sent from the USS Ronald Reagan. Delacruz also attempted to collect money from his aunt's estate after her death. Delacruz and Romero have both been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
