Drug Charges In Record Heroin Seizure in Orange County
Drug charges have been filed against Gerardo Medina Hernandez, a native of Mexico, in connection with the state's largest heroin seizure. Agents from the state's Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement seized 95 pounds of heroin as Hernandez was unloading it from a sport utility vehicle parked at his home in Anaheim.
The black tar heroin, which had an estimated street value in excess of $10 million, is believed to have originated in Mexico. Hernandez, 25, has no prior criminal record and is in the US as a resident alien. Hernandez is being held on a $2 million bond in the Los Angeles County jail and will be charged with possession of heroin intended for sale. The Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement does not expect to make additional arrests or file additional drug charges like conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance at this time., however the investigation into the source of the heroin will continue. The Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement will work with agencies in Mexico to get additional indictments as needed.
