In addition to facing charges in California, Texas authorities said that they will move to extradite Alexander to Texas to face similar charges there. Authorities in New York and Massachusetts are also investigating the designer, who reportedly lured the aspiring young models to Los Angeles, where they were assaulted. Prosecutors allege that in addition to forcible offenses, Alexander disabled some of his victims by drugging them.
According to the prosecution, Alexander engaged in a "common pattern" of locating women via the Internet, on sites like MySpace, and promising them that he would make them famous. He indicated that he had played an important role in Paris Hilton's career, a claim that the model denies. Hilton did appear as a model in one of Alexander's shows.
Alexander is a native of India and immigrated here with his mother and sister when he was in his teens. He graduated from the Parsons School of Design in New York City and has created clothing and jewelry. He was also featured in Newsweek magazine and on the television program "America's Next Top Model."
Alexander's defense attorney blasted the case against the designer, saying that most of the victims were not credible witnesses on the stand, and that Alexander was the victim of revenge-oriented women who were angry that Alexander had spurned them following consensual sex.
