Trial Delayed For San Bernardino Murder

Take Charge Of Your Defense
The murder trial of Dudzai Prosper Pswatai, 21, of Riverside, has been postponed. Pswatai is accused of the murder of San Bernardino resident Robert Mastrangelo, 24. His body was found in June in a drainage ditch near Barstow by a jogger. Mastrangelo had been bound and suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
The trial has been delayed at the request of the prosecution, which asked for additional time to gather evidence. The defendant in the case had asked the court to expedite the trial. According to the prosecution, they're still waiting for DNA analysis results. The prosecution is also examining what it characterizes as "new evidence."
On November 25, the prosecution asked Judge John Gibson to dismiss the existing charges against Pswatai and refile identical charges against him, effectively creating a new timeline for the trial. Gibson agreed and Pswatai was arraigned on the new charges during that session.
According to investigators, the June 14 murder was the result of a drug deal gone bad. The prosecution alleges that Pswatai and another man, Jeffrey Berrouet, kidnapped Mastrangelo and held him in Berrouet's garage before killing him. Pswatai was arrested on July 3. Berrouet has not been apprehended. Jurors who had been selected for the first trial have been dismissed.
