South Gate Man Arrested In Fatal Crash
An 18-year-old South Gate man has been arrested in connection with a fatal auto accident in which a 14-year-old boy was killed and four other middle school students were injured. Eduardo Rojo allegedly crashed his van into the group of students waiting to board a bus just after school had been dismissed for the day. Initially, police said that the vehicle had experienced a mechanical failure immediately before the collision, however investigators suspect that Rojo may have been using an inhalant when he lost control of the vehicle.
Rojo will be arraigned on Thursday, although police have not yet specified the charges against him. Police are also looking for a second occupant of the van, who fled the scene of the accident on foot.
Three of the four teens injured in the crash have been released from the hospital. The fourth victim remained hospitalized for observation with non-life-threatening injuries.
