Simi Valley Man Receives Consecutive Life Sentences
A judge in Ventura County sentenced a Simi Valley man to two consecutive life sentences for his role in two separate assaults. Judge Kevin DeNoce said that the defendant's actions amounted to a "high degree of cruelty, viciousness and callousness." Escamilla is accused of helping another man beat and torture two victims with box cutters and a power drill.
Walter Escamilla was accused of assisting another man, Delfino Vasquez, in preventing the escape of the two victims, both of whom survived the attacks. Escamilla and Vasquez were both known members of the West Side Locos street gang. Escamilla was convicted of multiple counts of aggravated mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment by violence and torture for the 2006 attacks. Vasquez received four consecutive life sentences plus 56 years for his role in the attacks. Escamilla will be eligible for parole in 2030.
