Carpinteria Assault Suspect Arrested

Carpinteria Assault Suspect Arrested
The Ventura County Sheriff's Department has arrested a man suspected of participating in an assault on a witness to a gang fight in Carpenteria. Edward Galvez was arrested last week near Ojai. Galvez is the last of six men accused of assaulting a man who used his cell phone to notify police of a fistfight among gang members. The men allegedly robbed the witness, taking his cell phone and physically assaulting the man.
Galvez, along with five other gang members, was charged with robbery, battery with serious injury, and dissuading a witness with a gang enhancement. He was also wanted on a previous parole violation charge. The other suspects pleaded guilty to assault and battery charges with gang enhancements. Two of the suspects are serving eight and ten year sentences. The three other suspects were given five year suspended sentences for their roles in the assault.
